Procedures
Step #1 - Using a Map of the United States - you and your partner need to choose one of the destination cities highlighted.
Step #2 - Using Google Maps determine the total mileage for your trip from Kansas City to the destination city. Use attachment #1 to record the mileage and travel minutes of both step #2 & step #3. Step #3 - You will now determine the stops you will need to take along the way, look at the Google map and locate several stopping point cities in which you can get a hotel, eat, or see an attraction. Make these cities evenly spread out along your route to break up your trip. You will need to log these stops into your chart attachment #1. See Chart to the right. |
Day #2 Tasks
Step #1 - Today now that you have planned your route you will need to decide on the type of car you need for the vacation. You will need to look at the "car selections" I have provided and decide on your ride. See Attachment #2. When you have selected a car you will need to find out how many mpg (miles per gallon) your car gets on highway miles. This will help you determine how far you can travel on each tank of gas.
Step #2 - You will use the formula mpg x 15 to calculate the total mileage you can travel in your car before needing gas. Step #3 - You will need to determine how often on your trip you will be stopping for gas, calculating the amount gas costs in the city you are stopping for gas, and the amount you spend for a tank of gas. Attachment #2 has the table to the right to organize stops. Day #3 Tasks |
